William Lyon Homes Warranty

It's the biggest investment you'll ever make. Keep it beautiful and preserve its value with regular preventive maintenance. This section tells you how.

Use the drop down menu below to choose an area of care and maintenance for the exteror or interior of your home. Proper care and maintenance of your William Lyon Home will provide you with years of enjoyment and will help protect your investment.

Windows

Follow these simple procedures to keep your windows operating smoothly for years. Do not apply film window tinting or aluminum foil to double-glazed windows. This can cause excessive heat to build up between the panes and destroy the insulating seals.

Open and close all windows gently to avoid cracking or breaking the glass.

Vinyl Windows
Keep the tracks and weep holes free of dirt and debris. Vinyl is a relatively soft material. To prevent scratches, use a broom or brush to loosen debris, then vacuum it up with a brush attachment. Tracks may be lubricated with a silicone-based product. Do not use abrasive or petroleum-based cleaning products.

Condensation
While a small amount of condensation is normal, too much condensation on windows is a sign of excessive humidity. Excessive condensation can damage frames and sills, allowing moisture to penetrate your home's structure, blister paint and create mildew inside the walls. To reduce humidity, ventilate the entire house for a few minutes each day, and ventilate the kitchen, laundry room and bathrooms during use. Run the exhaust fans longer and more often. Vent clothes dryers and gas appliances to the outdoors.
